May News
I feel like our journey at Thrasher has been similar to Dr. Seuss’s book, Oh The Places You Will Go. And will we succeed was the question we pondered? Since 1999 when Thrasher was reconfigured, five of our teachers have been named Hamilton County Teacher of the Year, several promoted to administration, three recognized as Hamilton County Board of Education Teachers of Excellence, and many more accolades including the Lookouts Starting Nine. In 2000, Thrasher’s PTA was named the Hamilton County PTA of the Year. We also successfully built a half million dollar gym, a new playground, were recognized nationally as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, and for the last three years have been recognized for straight A’s on The Tennessee Report Card. Did we succeed? Yes! We did, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)
A reporter once asked me why Thrasher has experienced all this success. Is it luck? I don’t believe so. It has been hard work, an outstanding staff, great parental support, and children motivated to learn. We have also been blessed, and I thank all of you, and our parents who continue to pray for this school and all who enter it.
As you continue your journey with a new principal and programs, remember the wisdom of Dr. Seuss. Let us “ keep the balance, find the bright places where Boom Bands are playing, be ready for anything under the sky, and face up to our problems whatever they are.” And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.) You’ll move mountains!
Thanks for the journey, your laughter, your sacrifice, your dedication and your friendship. I would embark on this journey again with you in a heartbeat.
Fondly,
Jean Trohanis

More about Thrasher and Principal Trohanis
Thrasher Elementary School has a tradition of excellence in education
that was present when I started teaching here in 1973. In 2004, the school
was nationally recognized for the second time in it's history. It was
named a National School of Excellence in 1986 under the leadership of
Kirk Wheeler. Thrasher was honored in 2004 as a No Child Left Behind-Blue
Ribbon School of Excellence. It was awarded this recognition for consistently
performing in the top ten percent of the State. I had the privilege of
traveling to Washington D.C. with Kelly Willingham, a fifth grade teacher,
to receive the award from the Secretary of Education.
Thrasher is all about the children and fostering a love for learning.
We have a challenging curriculum and a community that supports the school
by providing volunteers and supplementing the allocated funds. The Thrasher
staff is a family that continues to "raise the bar" for teacher and student
performance.
